Vodyanoy are malevolent water eidolons. From a distance they could be mistaken for a fat bald human, but their eyes and mouth are grotesquely frog-like up close.
These solitary creatures dwell in lakes and rivers, specifically near steep pits in the lakebed. A Vodyanoy lies motionlessly in the water with only its eyes and nose poking above the surface. When a swimmer or sailor drifts too close, the creatures grapples them and drags them to the bottom to drown them. The Vodyanoy adds the remains of his slain victims to its crude nest, and elder Vodyanoy animate these corpses to serve as bodyguards and servants. Fisherman and sailors can appease the evil spirit by offering sacrifices of fish and tobacco.
