The Zhar Ptitsa – more commonly known as Firebirds – are avian summer eidolons. Resembling large peacocks, these creatures are adorned with majestic plumage that glows with the hues of a burning campfire. Despite their name, Firebirds do not manipulate or generate flames in any way. Asides from their luminescent properties they are relatively normal birds.
Firebirds are often sought out for their unique feathers, which continue to glow brightly after being removed from their bodies. Many soldiers and hunters have been enlisted by their Kings to catch these magical beasts, and a captive Firebird holds great value to many across Yavmir.
After Perun severed the celestial chain that connected the elemental plane of fire to Yavmir, Firebirds (and a great deal of other summer eidolons) diminished greatly in numbers. Those left are skittish, and prefer to avoid direct contact with humans.
