Unearthed Update: September 24 (Empty World Walkabout)

I’ve been mainly fishing through the ROM for bugs lately (not very exciting), so I thought I’d whip up a quick video to keep the blog interesting. Below is a walkabout of Unearthed’s game world, hosted by myself, Radiostorm (Matt), and Geoff. It shows off some of the game’s areas, outlines the overall narrative of the game, and gives you a chance to see how everything is connected.

As you can see, there is still a bit of bug testing to do! Next week I’ll have some more sprites to show off (ISAAC hopefully), and a few other odds and ends.

  • Looking forward to this. Still. I just hope it’s not too much of a PITA to get it to work. Some of the Earthbound hacks… yeah, needing specific versions of the ROM, several specialized tools to adjust filesize, remove banners, apply patches… bleh.

  • Getting the game finished is more of a time-sink then a technical hurdle at this point. Coil Snake makes things soooooo much easier, and virtually eliminates the possibility of bonking the ROM.

When the game is complete, I’ll just be hosting the ROM itself on the website. I’ve been doing the same thing with HyperBound for years now without any legal complaints, and it makes the game so much more for accessible for everyone.

  • *Snirk* Perhaps they hesitate to throw their legal weight around with Earthbound when they know they’re on some shaky grounds with how much copyrighted material appears in the game.
