Unearthed Update: New Battle Backgrounds

I have completed another milestone in my never-ending game design quest. Behold! Mother 3 battle backgrounds integrated in the EarthBound ROM. Well, that is just a single battle background. But I assure you, I’ve inserted about 150 of them into Unearthed. I’m not sure if I’ll be using all of the new backgrounds, but I certainly will be including the ones that look this cool...

Unearthed Update: Music (Almost) Fully Implemented

I have an exciting update for you all! Over the last year or so I’ve been collecting musical submissions from the community over at Starmen.net, and I’ve finally gotten around to implementing the tracks into the game. With over twenty new pieces of music now embedded into the game’s world, Unearthed is starting to sound preeeeeetty goooood. Here are a few of my favourite tracks...

Unearthed Update: Presents and More

I had a bit of free time over the holidays, so I decided to get caught up on some Unearthed work. Working diligently, I managed to place every present on the overworld map. That is about 60-70 individual backpacks, gift boxes, garbage cans, and treasure chests! I also took care of a few miscellaneous overworld elements. One of my favourite additions are the notes of an intrepid explorer, who...

Unearthed Updates: Shops Complete

This update is short, sweet. and animated: All the shops and vendors in the game are now working! This process was a tad more cumbersome than I originally thought it was going to be, but many thanks go out to H.S. on the Starmen.net boards for streamlining the process! You may also notice that I updated the text windows, because, why not? I like having the speaker identified in a separate window...

Unearthed Update: Herbs & Spices

Sorry for the long Unearthed hiatus everyone! I’ve been tied up at work over the last few weeks, and I also had to perform a difficult move across the harsh urban landscape known as Toronto. But, at last, I bring you a new game update: in animated gif format. All of the herbs have been placed throughout the game’s world. I’ve touched on the herbalism system in the game in...

Unearthed Update: Enemy Placement Complete

Here’s another big Unearthed update for all you folks. All the enemies in the game have now been placed on the world map! I’ve put together a little video to show off some of my favourite enemies and locales. Many thanks go out the the SM.net community for helping out with the sprites, and to DalisClock for the rockin’ music! Now that I have placed all the enemies on the map...

Unearthed Update: Tomorrow Mike Problems

I’m off to Yellowknife on a work trip next week, but before I left, I thought I’d drop a quick Unearthed Update onto the blog. Nothing major: just a recap of some tribulations I’ve run into during this phase of development. As you know, I’ve been working diligently to place all of Unearthed’s enemies onto the world map. This process has been going fairly smoothly...

Unearthed Update: Enemy Placement Underway

I have finally finished all the arduous data entry for enemy groupings in Unearthed! As you saw in my last update, the work I was doing equated to plugging numbers into spreadsheets. It wasn’t a whole lot of fun, but was a necessary technical hurdle to overcome. But now with all those lovely numbers in place, I can start doing fun things. Like populating different areas of the game with...
