The map design for the sewers portion of Unearthed is complete! The map editing for this one was a bit challenging, as I had to tweak some map tiles to make my designs fit together properly. The original tileset was not designed for some of the progressions I had in mind and needed some… encouragement.
I received quite a few negative comments regarding the colour of the barrels in the original tileset, so I decided to change the palette up a bit to fix the problem. I replaced the greys with an “blue industrial plastic” colour scheme and I think it turned out rather nicely! The blue acts as a nice contrast to the brown-orange of the sewer walls, making the barrels pop out more as a terrain feature.
Although not far removed from those found in EarthBound, I think the sewers in Unearthed have a pretty unique feel to them. I actually ended up making this portion of the game a bit longer than I originally planned since I loved the atmosphere so much!
