The map design for the Scrapyard area of Unearthed has been completed. The Scrapyard is a large cavern that serves as one of the first major “dungeon-crawls” in the game. Futuristic technology sprawls broken and unattended across the area, creating a natural maze of rubble and rusty machinery.
Just as a note… I’ve decided to keep the updates a bit more brief from here on out. I don’t want to give away too much of the game or waste too much time cropping images and recording videos.
If you feel like you’d like to take a look at specific parts of the game in more detail, comment on a post or send me an email at michael@hyperbound.net. I’ll see if I can put something together for you.
It seems a little creepy, and I like that!
Been watching this project since it’s inception, even attempted to help with some spriting over on the thread at Starmen.net. I have to say, it’s looking fantastic. I always thought that the original EB over-used the standard cave tileset, which was kinda bland. Your tilesets give a really atmospheric touch to the maps
.
I’ll tell you what I’m really looking forward to though is seeing some battle sprites.
I know you probably get this a lot, but I am willing to lend a hand with spriting or whatever you have a need for.
Thanks for the feedback Beelzebub. Making a lot of different cave tile-sets for the game was necessary, mostly due to the sheer amount of the game that takes place underground (80-90%). The Scrapyard is one of my personal favourites as it incorporates a lot of elements from other areas in fresh ways.
Thank you for the offer of help, but I will not be taking on any community assistance at this point. I want to make sure that the map editing gets finished without destroying the ROM – otherwise I may be recruiting help for a game that can never be finished!
Once I make it to that phase I will post some “help wanted” ads on the website. I will likely be seeking out a sprite artist (such as yourself), some beta testers and a couple PkHackers who like checking for bugs.
Looking good, I’ve been looking forward to this for quite some time. I’d love to beta test for you when the call goes out, I’ll be sure to keep an eye out here at the new website for that info.
