Science Fiction, Robotics, and Body Anxiety

Guess what? I’m posting more of my “work” work on the blog! This is a bit of an oddity – since my audio interviews are usually few and far between – but recently I had the chance to chat about sci-fi, disabilities, and technology with the knowledgeable Dr. Jeff Preston.Tin-Men-Book-Cover-Final-Battle-Cyborg-Robot-with-Marionette-StringsA recurring theme in science fiction is placing a human mind into a robot, a virtual world, or another living body entirely. Jeff Preston and I spoke on the popularity of this narrative, and how it can be troubling when viewed through the lens of disability.

We got to chat about Avatar, Tin Men, and bunch of other cool science fiction movies and books. You can listen to the interview below, which aired as part of AMI-audio’s Insights program.

Thoughts and comments are welcome! I relish opportunities to speak on topics like this, and Jeff was illuminating as always.
